Oklahoma looking good in first game of Nationals.

The #2 Sooners opened their tournament run against the #18 Fighting Illini, who defeated Arizona in a tight game the day before. Although they had to face losing their top goal scorer Bryce Johnson in the first five minutes of the game for game misconduct and hitting from behind, the Sooners got their legs under them and started finding the net. The Senior goaltenders Nick Holmes for Oklahoma and Nick Clarke for Illinois both made some incredible saves in the matchup.

Darrell Boldon opened the scoring up for OU in the final minutes of the first period and the Sooners never looked back, beating the Illini 6-1. Boldon would score the final goal of the game as well. Ryan Stouffer, Derek Tylka, Kevin Zhender and Brandon Dennis all put points on the board for OU. The loss of Johnson didn’t appear to hurt the team too much as everyone stepped up to the line to get the job done.

Senior Mike Evans was the lone Illinois goal scorer. 6 other Illinois Seniors played their last game over the weekend. It’s been fun and I wish you all well in your futures!!

Game two for the Sooners will be on Sunday at 3pm CST. against #10 Iowa State. The Cyclones defeated the Ohio Bobcats on Saturday 3-1. The last time OU and Iowa State played, the Cyclones beat the Sooners 4-1.
